This three-day course provides an innovative look into the theory and practice for certifying detention officers for the State of Oklahoma. The OSA Detention Officer Academy: Train the Trainer is designed to meet minimum requirements set forth by 74 O.S. § 192 (OSCN 2023) and guidelines promulgated rules pursuant to the provisions of the section. During this course, heavy focus will be provided on topics relevant to producing detention officers skilled in highly litigated areas of the career such as medical, mental health, report writing, legal issues, and more. Through this course, instructors will lay the groundwork for legitimizing the position of Detention Officer within your Office.

This course has a minimum seating requirement of 15 to host.

NOTE: This course was designed by Jail Administrators across the State to be a TRAIN THE TRAINER course. Information provided will contain guidance and base materials for the creation of an academy (or individual training) specific to your Office/Facility. Therefore, we ask that only those attend who have the desire to invest in the betterment of their Office and its training.

Heavy participation, which includes discussion, will be expected to complete this course. Materials REQUIRED for attendance include:

☐ Black or Blue Pen

☐ Red Pen

☐ Notepad

☐ Office Policies and Procedures which regulate the Detention Center

☐Three (3) previous reports written about incidents which occurred within the Detention Center. (Please

do not bring one-liner reports. If you are a supervisor, attempt to bring reports which have been

submitted by subordinates. The longer the better.)

OPTIONAL

☐Laptop (Keep in mind some portion of the class may include notes or editing current practice, policy,

and or training.)

☐Current presentation material used by the Office in teaching Detention Officers.

Certificates will be supplied upon completion.
