WSSA and NSA Conferences

WSSA and NSA Conferences

Posted on: July 16th, 2021   Topic: OSA News OSA News & Announcements

This year both Western States Sheriffs Association and National Sheriffs Association held their annual conference this year after a year layoff. WSSA was held in Reno NV and NSA in Phoenix AZ. As you can imagine the topic of conversation for both conference’s was the border issue. When we had the opportunity we discussed the McGirt decision as much as possible tying to make them aware of the issues law enforcement face in Oklahoma.

As many of you know Sheriff Chris West of Canadian County hold a position on the NSA Board of Directors and during this years conference held made a bid to become NSA Secretary on the Executive Committee. We had ten Oklahoma Sheriffs that attended the conference the most to our knowledge who went to assist with Sheriff West campaign for the NSA Secretary position. At the conclusion of the NSA conference Sheriff West ran unopposed and was successful in his bid.

The OSA has emphasized the importance of having Sheriff Shannon Smith as the Oklahoma Representative to WSSA and Sheriff Chris West as the Secretary for NSA, This gives us a voice on the national stage and we are provided assistance from both organization when necessary.

Special thanks to Sheriff Day Custer County, Sheriff Daugherty Blaine County, Sheriff Rink Garfield County, Sheriff Chennault Cherokee County, Sheriff Turner Haskell County, Sheriff Sander Dewey County, Sheriff Mitchell Woodward County, Sheriff Booth Ellis County, Sheriff Bryant Carter County. and (Ret) Sheriff Whetsel for all their assistance and support.
