From March 27th – 31st, 2017, the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association held our first event, the New Sheriffs Academy, in our newly built training facility. We were excited to share this event with Oklahoma’s newest Sheriffs. The 45-hour course of instruction included 2 hours of Mental Health and covered many topics from Leadership Values and Sheriff’s Budgets to Evidence Submittal and the Prison Rape Elimination Act. Additionally, Sheriff Charlie Dougherty of Lincoln County, Sheriff Joe Lester of Cleveland County, and Sheriff Shannon Smith of Seminole County came to speak to the new Sheriffs and do a Q&A. The week was successful and the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association is looking forward to working with these new Sheriffs and holding many more events for Oklahoma’s Sheriff’s Offices in our new facility.
